Typically polyurethane and urethane rubber should not be used in dynamic applications above 200F 93C. When tested at 200F 93C their properties are generally only half of those measured at 75F 25C. Urethane heat ages well however and the effect of high temperatures up to 250F 120C for weeks on physical properties is almost completely reversible when tested again at 75F 25C. We have some urethanes that perform well up to 300F 150C. In most dynamic applications we recommend staying at temperatures below 160F 70C. The normal high property working range of urethane is 40F to 160F 40C to 70C.

Polyurethane elastomers are a great way to produce rubber parts from a silicone rubber mould because although polyurethane will stick to lots of surfaces it does not stick to silicone rubber even without a release agent. This allows us to use a silicone rubber mould to cast polyurethane rubber parts. Which is an advantage because silicone sticks to itself and is often incompatible with other types of silicone like addition cure silicone making a silicone part from a silicone mould is almost impossible. So most polyurethane rubbers do not need any release agents when used with condensation cured silicone.
